They mentioned in the episode that the mirror-universe version of Lorca was swapped with the Federation's Lorca in a transport malfunction. Perhaps the Federation Lorca never died and will show up again.

Lorca was the best part of the show and now he is gone. On the one hand, it is cool they are following a DS9-vibe with a war and ongoing story, but on the other hand the slow build up every other trek followed by doing specific episodes on each character helped build meaning and give weight to every character (particularly in DS9). We are missing that here. We know pretty much nothing about any character OTHER than Lorca and we don't care. We especially don't care much about Michael Burnham. There is very little endearing or heroic about that character.

Think Lorca got pulled into the network so technically not dead and I think the spore that landed on Tilly's shoulder is what remains of him.

luved this episode!!! luved that DSC has shown you can still be Trek and have some fun and ACTION – I know the "A" word fanboys!!! i hope that canonites continue to sit on the sidelines and hate it! Their LOSS!
And PLZ PLZ PLZ let it be Brunhams fate find prime Lorca alive somewhere!!!! PLZ!!!!

What I want to know is what happened to the original Lorca? Did mirror Lorca find him and just REPLACE him? Kill him? maybe he is still alive somewhere in the regular universe? Not giving up hope as I really liked Jason Isaacs performance.

There was a blue light that went into Sylvia Tilly and I think was a small overlooked scene that will end up playing a big role.

Seriously? You think this sets up excitement? How, since we know that this takes place 10 years before Kirk, where is the tension? Kirk's Starfleet is a sprawling thing contained in 1 system, so we KNOW this will not be an exciting fight for the Federation since we know they must win before Kirk takes command. The acting in this show–particularly by Martin-Greene, and whom ever that guy is who plays the blonde engineer–as for the 'action' you must be referring to that out of nowhere leg kick that knocks Lorca down. Honestly where was that leg attached to that chick. ALSO, and this is important to me, the woman is an Empress, EMPEROR denotes a man. Just because this SJW infused crap seeks to destroy the English language does not mean that you should help them to do it. Stick to your guns man!

They have to time travel back to before the war and stop it from ever happening and eliminate the "Spore Drive" because of the fact that there was no war with the Klingons in this timeline.

Don't like the coming back to the Klingon war, think that Philppa should have died. still think the Discovery will help a Klingon ship or out post when the Romulans come a fighting.

Is it just me or does Discovery appear to be an extremely Anti-Male show? I mean i have no problem with strong female characters (or varying levels of diversity) in Star Trek, but so far outside of Saru, Sarek and Paul Stamets, every male character appears to be a bit of a jerk. Is there a subtle underlying message that the writers are trying to make, or is there going to be a strong male character coming in the future? I mean i get it 'Women good, Men bad', but does the whole show have to centered on this particular theme?

I like it. Discovery series is pretty good. Better than enterprise, next gen etc. I liked voyager best, out of the lineup, before discovery. I also enjoyed stargate sg-1. Anyway. I give discovery two thumbs up. Nice effects, characters, acting, and story line. I think they could leave out the gay lover crap tho. WHY do they feel they need to add gays? They did it in the walking dead too. Of course, when most humans are dead, there's going to be 2 lesbians & two fags. I'm not homophobic. Common, do we need gay relationships in zombieland?

I loved the Mirror universe, sad that more of it couldn't be explored in the time we got it.
And when you brought up the fact that the Terran Empire was capable of potentially irreversibly damaging the Multiverse, I just imagine how giddy the Terrans would get if they knew that.

Also, I always turn the brightness down on devices and prefer not to be in the sun. I am also a huge fan of the Galaxy Empire, Imperium of Man, Helghast (minus Nazism), Lannisters, and the such.

Does that mean I'm from the Mirror universe?

Also, what if the Terran Empire and its entire military arrived in the prime universe at the end of the episode and started attacking the victorious Klingon Empire? How would that work? Who would win (assuming the Terrans are competent, and they got the data of the Klingon cloaks when Lorca was in command)

I think that Jason Isaacs (Lorca) will turn up again.  Prime Lorca may not be dead.  Who knows what happened to him with the Buran?  It would be a real shame for him to be off of the show for good, as I found him to be one of my favorite Starfleet Captains to date.  I liked his conflicted character and his murky morality.  This was a great episode, but I am very disappointed with the thought that Discovery may go on without Captain Lorca.

The show has grown on me. Especially the fact that it's a continuing story, instead of seperate 1 hour episodes. The first season is basically a 15 hr movie.

This is an epic sci-fi show. Really enjoy it! And yes, this is Star Trek. The Klingons look different, yes, but you need to remember that they looked different in TOS as well. It was explained in Next gen that there was a disease that swept through the Klingon Empire that changed them. Thinking it may have started with Ash Tyler. Still believe this sets up for the Kirk era. It will be explained in the future episodes.

Shrooms, shrooms, shrooms powering reactors, actors acting like shrooms and while we're at it, timetravel-shrooms.
Surpirse, lorka is evil. As to why, since he tries to free his crew and overthrow a tyrannical dictator, some might say he's a freedom fighter. But whatever. He's white and someone has to be evil to elevate the good guys position.
Huge ship, no shields, phasers to the bridge, torpedo in the shroom-reactor and our heroes are back in their universe.
The mirror universes body count is way to high to be realistic anyway. Why would Lorka kill stamos who build the reactor. He might be useful later on. What do you do as emperor when your mini-sun turns green all of a sudden. Executing him is a stupid decision, like many others they made. It's just comical at this point.

I'm looking for the off-duty episode when michelle yeoh gets a bunk in the room together with readhead chubby and black girl.
The only question remains, what does Kelpian taste like?

Casual observation…. there are NO male characters in leadership roles (one in a supporting one)…. none… just an observation… this is a female driven universe which seems a bit… over the top… again, just an observation… and once more… JUST AN OBSERVATION….  great story, phenomenal…. just want to know why all men are dead, dying, getting killed and/or marginalized… anyone else making this same observation…. I have not gone through all the comments….. Capt. Kirk just will not exist here or what?

I must admit, this story line is quite awesome. One of my all time fave story lines from any Star Trek series..its way up there. Can they do better? I am not sure..but i hope they do..well done Discovery..

I think Lorca and Hugh will continue making appearances as "mycelial ghosts". The fact that Lorca died by falling literally face-first into a spore drive, combined with the fact that Hugh has apparently survived in some sense inside the mycelial network, makes me think they have a pretty solid plot device for keeping Lorca on the show.

    February 2, 2018 at 11:58 pm

I hope that the Prime Lorca is just being held captive somewhere (put there by the Terran Lorca) and will make more appearances. I was really hoping Tilly would retain the hairstyle and overall look of when she was in the Mirror Universe (she looked so frigging hot in the Terran uniform!) . . . I would like to see her Prime character adopt some of the confidence of her Terran personae . . . it would also be nice to see some of the other bridge characters get some more development.

I would disagree with other fans out here. I am kind of disappointed with this episode. And I have loved this new Star Trek so far.

I have actually liked the slow build of the series so far and was hoping that adventures in mirror universe will continue. I was hoping that both Stamets had switched places. What happened to Defiant. Mirror Lorca got killed too quickly. He was quickly becoming my favourite Star Trek captain. I am hoping that he hasn’t died and somehow become part of network just like Stamets. Maybe that blue spore on Tilly was Lorca.

On the positive side, the cliffhanger was great and action sequences were good but still feel that mirror universe arc was prematurely wrapped up.

Lorca, as long as he held up his cover, was one of the few Characters in the whole star trek universe that acted realistically to me. He wasn't utterly, nearly comically, evil like all the mirror guys and at the same time not so pansie-like all good like the federation guys. He seemed like the only character who actually behaved like a human, with a good and a dark side. Atleast, until he revealed his true nature and became utterly, nearly comically, evil.

Lorca could still show up, while Mirror Lorca is dead, but we still don't know about Prime Lorca. In DS9 we learn that you don't have to switch places with your duplicate. Also, DS9 showed us that 2 versions can exist in the same universe.

Omar Abudayyeh, a MD/PhD student at the Broad Institute, is part of a team working on a new application for CRISPR technology. Rather than using it to edit genomes, as it has been used in the past, the team is using the technology to detect viruses, bacteria, and cancer at attomolar levels, allowing for highly accurate diagnosis with small amounts of sample. Check out Omar’s 2017 TEDMED Hive Talk to learn more about how this simple and inexpensive diagnostic tool has the potential to make a big impact.
