Fascinating treasures from the tomb of Tutankhamun

People have long been fascinated with the treasures and mysteries around King Tut’s tomb in the Valley of the Kings, Egypt. We take a look at some of the amazing artifacts and a brief history behind their discovery.

Artifacts on display at the California Science Center in Los Angeles, where an exhibition titled “King Tut: Treasures of the Golden Pharaoh” is being held in March and April 2018.

Several 3,300-year-old jars were found in the tomb of King Tut. These were filled with food, grains, wine and other items the king might need in his afterlife.

EaPEC2017: Enlighten Your Research awards – full session

One of the highlights of the 2nd Eastern Partnership E-infrastructures Conference (EaPEC2017) was the presentation of the Eastern Partnership region’s first ‘Enlighten Your Research’ (EYR) awards. The EYR programme invites researchers to submit proposals that highlight how access to advanced networks, technologies and computation would significantly improve their research and discovery process. Presenting the awards to the first regional EYR winners, Mary Hester of SURFnet explained the evolution of the programme since its start in the Netherlands in 2007. Six winning proposals ranged from high performance computing to open data projects:
• Tigran Zargaryan, National Library of Armenia for “Online Armenian digital library for research based on the e-infrastructure facilities of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia”.
• Igbal Safarov, University of Utrecht, the Netherlands for “Open Government Data adoption: A multi-level framework for data sharing and utilization in EaP countries”.
• Grusha Alexander Ivanovich, Central Scientific Library Yakub Kolas of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus for “Heritage Digital Data”.
• Boris Hincu & Elena Calmis, Moldova State University for “Elaboration of the Task Oriented Instrumental Support (TOIS) for Integration of MSU and IMI HPC Clusters into a Cloud Computing System”.
• Maryna Druchenko, Scientific and Technical Library, National Technical University of Ukraine for “KPI Digitization Center: Center for digitization of cultural heritage for the Ukrainian libraries, museums and archives”.
• Yevhen Plotnikov, Nizhyn State University named after Mykola Gogol for “Through Research to Perfection: New Approaches to Continuous Professional Development of In-Service Teachers”.
